Today, it is a business listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, turning over close to £4.5 billion and employing some 18,300 people across its operations in South Africa, the UK and Australia.

Motus Holdings (UK) Ltd. manages the automotive interests of Motus Holdings Limited in the United Kingdom. These encompass 112 vehicle franchise outlets at 68 locations: truck and van operations number 84 franchise outlets; passenger vehicles, 28 franchise outlets. The business additionally operates two specialist commercial vehicle body shops and has further interests in parts and service facilities and commercial vehicle equipment supply.

Motus Holdings (UK) Ltd. is a subsidiary of Motus Holdings Limited, a group that has grown successfully across the UK over the years, with interests in trucks and vans, passenger cars, parts, servicing, body repairs and bodybuilding and the supply of commercial vehicle equipment such as tail-lifts, curtain-sides and roller doors. With the move by our South African operating parent company toward the Motus name – ‘motus’ is Latin for motion – Motus has been adopted as the new name for our leading UK automotive group. Although our name changes, our dedication, to the high standards of business that have helped us become one of the UK’s most successful independent groups, will remain and grow.

OUR OPERATING DIVISIONS

Motus is comprised of four divisions

Imperial Commercials is an established and highly-regarded dealership name in the UK transport industry, offering truck and van sales and customer support through DAF, Fiat, Ford, Isuzu Trucks, Isuzu Pickups, Iveco, LDV, MAN, Renault and VW franchise outlets spread across more than 30 sites. In addition, it operates its own successful online van sales – Best Van Deals. The business includes the largest DAF dealer group in the UK and Europe.

A variety of high quality commercial vehicle products and services are channelled through the operations of Imperial Vehicle Solutions: truck and trailer parts through its TTE and RDP operations; body conversions from Mackworth Vehicle Conversion Solutions; curtain-sides at its Halesowen site; and supply of tail lifts and shutter doors through its Humberside Tail Lifts business, which also supplies tail lift parts with its parts4taillifts.com.

Two of the UK’s biggest and best Mercedes-Benz truck and van dealerships, S&B Commercials and Orwell Truck & Van, are managed through the Mercedes-Benz Commercials Division. Customers benefit from the pooled expertise and market knowledge, as well as practical assistance in areas such as finance, stock-holdings and parts and service availability.

Pentagon Motor Group was established in March 1991 with just one Vauxhall dealership in Derby. Today, the business operates some 38 franchise outlets for major brands of cars and vans, from 23 sites across the East Midlands and North.

    Rob Truscott

    Rob Truscott, CEO of Motus Holdings (UK) Ltd., joined the operation in 2017 from its South African parent company, Motus Corporation. He has overseen a number of significant developments in the UK, including the integration of the Pentagon Motor Group, and is now focused on steering the overall business through an important period of growth.

    Before coming to the UK, Rob ran the group’s passenger vehicle division in South Africa for four years, overseeing 135 franchise outlets and eight dedicated pre-owned dealerships representing all the major vehicle brands in the country. He also had 10 years’ experience as MD of a large multi-franchise commercial and passenger vehicle business in South Africa. Prior to entering the motor industry, he worked for a mobile telephone network, initially responsible for commercial legal functions and thereafter as its CEO in central Africa. 
After leaving university, Rob qualified and practised law as an attorney, and then as an advocate at the Johannesburg side bar and bar, before leaving the legal profession to pursue a business career.

    Rob has a BA LLB from Rhodes University.

    Will Davey

    Will Davey, Managing Director of the Mercedes-Benz Commercials Division of Motus, started with the Group in 2015 as Director of Truck Sales for S&B Commercials, with franchise outlets across Hertfordshire, Essex and Bedfordshire. Following a successful period in this role, in 2017 he was appointed Regional Director for the group’s DAF-Birmingham region of Imperial Commercials, with its franchise outlets. Having gained successful experience in the role of directly managing the general operations of these dealerships, in 2018 he was made managing director of the group’s Mercedes-Benz Commercials Division. Today, he is responsible for the operations of S&B Commercials and Orwell Truck and Van, which jointly encompass some eight franchise outlets stretching across Norfolk, Cambridge, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Essex and into North London.

    Prior to joining the group, Will held leading roles in the commercial vehicle asset rental and leasing industry, enjoying over nine successful years with his previous employer in various positions of rising seniority, finishing as Regional General Manager. In total he has over 27 years’ experience in the commercial vehicle industry, responsible for the senior management of activities covering sales, rental, leasing – and all the customer and product support functions associated with the role.

    Peter Glover

    Peter Glover was appointed Managing Director of Imperial Vehicle Solutions in 2015, when the division was formed as part of a structural change to Imperial Commercials. Today, the operations encompass a major bodying and body conversions operation for trucks and vans; the UK’s largest genuine Tail Lift Parts distribution and support company; and a two-site Commercial Vehicle Parts Factor operation incorporating a parts recycling business.

    In almost thirty years’ service with the Group, Peter has held several senior positions. Prior to becoming Managing Director of Imperial Vehicle Solutions, he was Regional Director for the Birmingham Region of Imperial Commercials. This role incorporated overall responsibility for commercial franchise outlets at Warwick, Garretts Green and Halesowen, covering two major franchises in DAF and Ford. It also incorporated a full HGV test facility, IVA lane, body-shop and two HGV parts factor locations at Pershore and Oldbury. Before his position as Regional Director, Peter was responsible for the aftersales business of Imperial Commercials at Stoke, Wrexham and Chester.

    In his early career, Peter worked for the family business in entertainment and leisure in the Staffordshire and Cheshire area.

  • Matt Lawrenson

    Matthew Lawrenson

    Matt Lawrenson, Managing Director of Imperial Commercials, joined the Group in 2002 as Regional Financial Controller for its DAF Trucks’ franchise outlets in the East Midlands. In 2006, he became Regional Director for the Derby Region, responsible for three sites. He guided the existing business through a sustained period of growth, additionally setting up Imperial Commercials’ first Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ franchise and introducing both Fiat Professional and Isuzu Pick Up brands to the main Derby site. During this time, the business also opened Mackworth Vehicle Conversion Solutions; acquiring Mix Vehicle Conversions and merging it with Mackworth Bodyworks to specialise in LCV and HGV body conversions and new builds. In 2015, Matt became Divisional Director of Imperial Commercials for Scotland and the East of England, overseeing 16 franchise outlets with seven franchise partners, before being appointed as Managing Director in late 2017.

    Prior to joining the Group in 2002, Matt’s career had centred on the commercial vehicle sector, including a four year term with Lex Commercials in the mid 90’s as a Trainee Accountant. Matt qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant in 1997.

  • David Lewis

    David Lewis

    David Lewis was appointed managing director of Pentagon Motor Group in 2017, following its acquisition by Motus.

    David joined the business in 2006, having worked previously with RAC plc. During his time with the company he has worked in both car and commercial vehicle divisions. Most recently, he had a role as a divisional director of Imperial Commercials, where he was responsible for several business expansion and integration projects: ideal preparation for his focus today on maximising the development potential of the Pentagon Motor Group. David’s background also includes time as a regional director of multi-site businesses for Imperial between 2006 and 2014. He has worked with many of the Group’s franchise partners and has wide experience in retail, business-to-business and used vehicle markets.

    David has a Diploma in Automotive Retail Management from Cardiff University and a Certificate in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

  • Peter Rose

    Peter Rose

    Peter Rose is the Chief People Officer for Motus, having joined the group in July 2018. Prior to this he had a 20 year career in Human Resources, holding a number of varied, senior HR roles.

    These included the HR Directorship of an automotive logistics business. Here, he had responsibility for providing a full HR service to employees deployed across a number of global territories, providing a wide range of logistics and supply solutions to an extensive range of clients. He was also HR Director for a global consultancy business, helping ensure consultants were effectively recruited and deployed to a broad range of clients. He also led HR for a division of a global Automotive Manufacturing business.

    Peter has particular expertise in building strong employee-focused cultures, especially in areas such as employee transitions (including TUPE transfers), building employee engagement and planning succession and development. He holds a Business degree as well as being a Chartered Member of the CIPD.

  • Andrew Welch

    Andrew Welch

    Andrew Welch, CFO of Motus, joined the operation in 2004 as Finance Director of Imperial Commercials Ltd., before moving to the Group CFO role following its acquisition of the Pentagon Group in 2017.

    Since joining the business, Andrew has seen it grow, both organically and through acquisition, from a turnover of under £200m to its current size.

    Prior to joining the business, Andrew was responsible for the Financial Planning and Analysis team of Lex Transfleet Limited, a commercial vehicle contract hire, vehicle rental and fleet management business, where he worked for 8 years. In his business life before entering the motor industry, he worked both for a major UK retailer and a leading aggregates business in various accounting roles.

    Andrew trained and qualified in accountancy practice with Grant Thornton, until deciding to leave the accounting profession to pursue a career in the wider business sector.
